ABOUT US
FOUNDER, MS. NIA
I grew up in Contra Costa County and started dancing at three years old. The first dance studio I attended was Dancers Elite Dance Academy in Antioch, CA. There I learned ballet, jazz and hip-hop and performed in multiple performances with their dance studio until I was five years old. Although I stopped performing with Dancers Elite Dance Academy, I did not stop furthering my dance journey.
At six years old I began praise dancing in my church ministry, Moving God’s Word. Praise dancing is expressing God’s word through dance form. I was able to harness my contemporary dance skills while growing in my personal relationship with God.
When I began high school, I began taking ballet, modern, and jazz techniques to become more well rounded in all dance styles. In addition, during my junior year of high school, I founded and was Dance Captain of a Majorette Dance Team. Due to my high school being primarily African American, I believed it was important to create an environment that showcased our culture. I lead a team of ten girls where we performed at football games and school rally’s. Our dances brought culture to my peers and I was able to continue to do what I love.
